TransCorr Strategic Meeting at ANAMED, Istanbul, 27 October 2026
  1. Calendar for volumes

Silvia Marton led the meeting and began by updating the colleagues on the status of the publication of the TransCorr volumes.

    Volume
The Phanariot Past and its Multiple Afterlives: Historicizing “Corruption” in Central-South-East Europe (1750s-1920s), Silvia Marton, Andrei Sorescu and Constantin Ardeleanu (eds.)

Our colleague from NEC, Filip Rossi, will help with editing the volumes. All Phanariot names will be written as in the Merriam Webster Dictionary in order to be recognized by a wide variety of international specialists. The publishing house is Bloomsbury.

The team decided to include images in this printed volume (black & white images – caricatures, drawings or photos of houses, portraits).

    Deadline final chapters – December 15, 2026

    Volume
Old Practices, New Interactions? Favoritism, Interests, Patronage in Central-South-East Europe (1750-1850) (provisional title), Silvia Marton and Constantin Ardeleanu (eds.)
    Deadline final abstracts – December 1, 2026
International conference – June 7-8, 2027 (on site, NEC, Bucharest)
    Deadline final chapters – June 30, 2027

  2. TransCorr events

The working group on Miloš Obrenović might organize a future seminar with guests to present the results of their research. This will be included in the TransCorr events calendar for this academic year that has been already prepared and sent to the team at the beginning of October.

All the same, a new event has been outlined during the meeting: a discussion in Romanian at the NEC moderated by Constantin Ardeleanu. This event will take place on Nov. 25, 2026, will be open to a wider public and will focus on the essentialization of corruption.

  3. Conferences and archives

Silvia Marton has reiterated the idea that team members are welcome to propose their participation to various conferences linked to their research topics and to go to archives whenever they need. She encouraged them to plan these actions in advance for the next two years. Travels to conferences and archives, scans from archives and open access will be financed through the TransCorr project.

  4. Publications

Boriana Antonova-Goleva mentioned that she had completed a longer article on corrupt networks in the railway sector that could be published as a short volume. The article will be peer-reviewed by colleagues from the TransCorr team.
